Welcome to Straigona - Where we pride ourselves on ensuring our guests have a relaxing and comfortable stay, with good food and advice on all Orkney has to offer.
Straigona is a purpose built Bed and Breakfast (B&B) located in Tankerness with stunning views over fields to Inganess Bay and the island of Shapinsay. It enjoys the best of both worlds, being semi-rural but only minutes away from the airport and Kirkwall.
For keen walkers there are even good walks on our doorstep, we also have a folder and books on various walks – as Julie is a keen walker she is always happy to make suggestions. We are also members of the RSPB and can suggest good places for birdwatching – and, of course, puffin watching when they are in Orkney (approx. end April to end July)
Ample parking is provided for guests at the front of the house. Straigona is set in a large garden with its own ‘standing stone’ taking centre stage. Plenty of room to stroll around or sit and admire the view and sunsets or watch our hens!
Straigona B&B is perfect for touring ‘Mainland’ Orkney. Kirkwall is only 5 miles away and Stromness is 20 miles away. The outer islands are often overlooked by first time visitors. They are great for a day trip and the ferry ports are easily reached from Straigona plus the airport is just down the road for anyone wanting to experience a trip in one of Loganair’s 8-seater Islander planes – why not take the world’s shortest scheduled flight and get your certificate!
Please note that in line with present Scottish legislation smoking is not permitted within Straigona. Smokers are welcome and are able to indulge under the covered porch in inclement weather, we do ask that you dispose of cigarette butts in the bin provided. We regret we are unable to accept pets as we have our own cats to consider.
To check availability and make a booking please contact Julie or Mike by phone or email at firstname.lastname@example.org or send an enquiry directly from this website.
Accommodation during The Nature Festival / Folk Festival (May) / St Magnus Festival (late June) and County Show Week (early August) can be booked up well in advance, please be aware if you are intending to visit Orkney during these times.
